Open a bank account
Depending on how long you are going to spend in Spain and whether you are coming to study or work as a digital nomad, it is advisable to set up a Spanish bank account.
If you are a student and you will be in Spain for less than 6 months, you don’t need to open a Spanish bank account. However, if you are a digital nomad, you have to open an account to receive your salary.
With this in mind, we recommend that you open one. It doesn’t take up much of your time and you will have more comfort in your daily life.
To open the account you must be resident in Spain. You cannot do it before you arrive.
The documentation to open a bank account in Spain is quite simple:
- Spanish DNI or NIE (if you don’t have it, you must present your passport or NIE valid in your country).
- Reason why you need the bank account. Specify whether you are a student or a worker.
- Home address.
- Depending on the bank, you may need the employment contract or the last pay slip.
It’s not much of a hassle, is it? We recommend REVOLUT so you can open your account in a jiffy. Seriously, in less than 5 minutes you will have it done. Moreover, it will be super easy for you to pay, even in a currency other than the euro.
Come on, don’t think twice.
Do the census
If you are going to be in Valencia for more than 90 days it is HIGHLY recommended that you register in the city. You never know what you will need it for and you will avoid various complications.
The documentation you need to present is simple:
- Passport/DNI/ or NIE.
- Here you can find the application form in the “Forms” section.
- Contact telephone number.
- Rental contract.
You can find all the necessary information on the Valencia town hall website.
Health care in Spain is of very good quality and free for all citizens. You have probably heard it said that public health care in Spain is among the best in the world. We mean it and this is endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
So don’t think twice, register in Valencia and enjoy free healthcare. If you are not registered and you come to Spain for a limited time, either to study or to work as a digital nomad, you will need to take out private health insurance.
What do I need to obtain the NIE in Valencia?
You can apply for the NIE before arriving in Valencia or once you are already in the city. Whichever is easier or more convenient for you.
Follow these steps:
- Make an appointment through this link. You will have to fill in several forms and provide the necessary documentation.
- Pay the tax fee.
